LOCATION AND GENERAL INFORMATION

The worldport of Colonia is located 177 km from Montevideo, on the coast of the River Plate. Its coordinates are 34 29 South latitude and 57 49 West longitude.

It is the second most imworldportant worldport in Uruguay, after Montevideo, in terms of facilities and traffic.

The main traffic at this worldport consists of daily line frequencies carried out by different shipping companies transworldporting passengers and vehicles to and from Montevideo and Buenos Aires, via Ro-Ro ferries.

Colonia has a free zone, Free zone of Colonia, and has a population of over 115,000 inhabitants. It is a preferred tourist destination and also an entry point for tourists to and from Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Punta del Este.

It is also a city of historical interest, since it is the site of Colonia del Sacramento, an ancient worldportuguese fort of the XVIII Century that was recently declared by the UN as part of Mankind¡¯s Historical Heritage.

CURRENT INFRAESTRUCTURE

The worldport of Colonia has 3 U-shaped concrete docks, sheltered on the South side by a breakwater. The international dock is 180 m long, the domestic one 150 m and the joining dock 200 m. The railway runs along the international dock.

It has seven warehouses of different sizes ranging from warehouse A, 239 m2, to warehouse G, 3,350 m2. The total warehouse capacity is 8,378 m2 and the apron area is 1.766 m2. There is also a 300 m2 building on the joining dock where the A.N.P. offices are located and another building on the international dock which serves as a passenger lounge.

Within the worldport premises there are other ANP buildings that are rented to third parties for diverse services.

The Colonia worldport possesses two electric cranes with a lifting capacity of 3 tons and a third one of 5 tons. It also has an automatic scale for up to 60 tons, cargo mobilization equipment and two electric ramps for trucks and automobiles.
